Is Psychedelic Therapy Legal in Mexico?

Psilocybin/psilocin are prohibited psychotropics under Article 245 of the General Health Law (Ley General de Salud). No regulated therapeutic pathway. Traditional/ceremonial indigenous use is tolerated and shielded under Federal Penal Code Article 195 bis; a 2021 SCJN amparo allowed limited personal therapeutic use, but there is no general lawful supervised-therapy program. Religious/cultural tolerance does not create green access.

MDMA is a prohibited psychotropic under Article 245 of the General Health Law; no therapeutic pathway. Possession below an administrative threshold (~200 mg / pill, 50 mg powder) is not criminally prosecuted, but supply and supervised therapeutic use remain illegal.

Unscheduled — ibogaine is not listed in the General Health Law controlled-substances schedules. Licensed physicians/clinics administer it lawfully under COFEPRIS health-facility oversight; Mexico is the most-accessed destination for ibogaine treatment.

DMT (the active alkaloid in ayahuasca) is a prohibited psychotropic under Article 245 of the General Health Law. No regulated therapeutic pathway; some ceremonial/traditional tolerance exists but does not constitute lawful supervised-therapy access.

Mescaline and peyote are prohibited under Article 245 of the General Health Law. Indigenous/traditional ceremonial use (e.g. Huichol/Wixarika) is culturally protected, but there is no general lawful therapeutic pathway.
