Bicycle Day and the Journey That Never Really Ends

Bicycle Day and Integration Circles at ATMA CENA

Every April 19th, those of us in the world of psychedelics pause to mark a special moment in history. We call it Bicycle Day — and if you haven’t heard the story, it’s one worth knowing.

On this day in 1943, Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann became the first person to intentionally experience LSD. After absorbing a small amount through his fingertips in his lab in Basel, Switzerland, he climbed on his bicycle and rode home — unaware that the ride would become one of the most storied moments in the history of psychedelic medicine. That afternoon would eventually spark decades of research into the therapeutic potential of psychedelic medicine, a field that ATMA CENA is proud to be part of today.

It’s a reminder that transformative moments can arrive when we least expect them — and that the journey itself can change everything.

The Journey Doesn’t End on Medicine Day

At ATMA CENA, we believe the medicine day is not the finish line but rather the beginning. Psychedelic-assisted therapy can open doors — to insight, to healing, to parts of yourself you haven’t visited in a long time. But making sense of what you experienced and bringing it into your everyday life? That’s psychedelic integration. And it’s one of the most important parts of the process.

Psychedelic integration isn’t a single conversation or a checkbox. It’s an ongoing practice of reflection and meaning-making. Research supports that the quality of integration after a psychedelic experience has a real impact on long-term outcomes — which is why we build it into everything we do at ATMA CENA.

Integration Circles: Healing Together

One of the most powerful ways to support psychedelic integration is in community. There’s something meaningful about sitting — even virtually — with others who understand what you’ve been through and are doing their own work.

This spring and summer, we’re hosting small group facilitated integration circles available exclusively to ATMA CENA psychedelic clients — and we encourage every one of you to consider joining. All current and past psychedelic clients are welcome.

Sessions are held virtually every two weeks, offering a warm, supported space for reflection after psychedelic-assisted therapy.

Two series are available:

  • Spring/Summer series: May 28 · June 11 · June 25 · July 9
  • Late Summer/Fall series: Aug. 6 · Aug. 20 · Sept. 3 · Sept. 17
  • All sessions run 6:00–7:30 PM MST

Whether you’re newly post-treatment or further along in your psychedelic integration journey, these circles offer a space to reflect and connect with others who get it. And if you’re on the fence — if group sharing doesn’t feel like your thing — we hear that. But time and again, our clients tell us that showing up was worth it. The shared experience has a way of surprising you.

A Note on Bicycle Day

We love Bicycle Day for what it represents: the courage to explore the unknown, the openness to be changed by what we find, and the willingness to keep going — even when the road feels unfamiliar.

That’s the spirit we bring to every integration circle, every clinic session, and every training we offer. The journey continues. We’re glad to be part of yours.
